Merry, Merry

If you are "from away" (a favorite expression of the natives here), you might be impressed to hear it's 50 degrees today! Wow!

I hope you are all able to spend the holidays with loved ones and reflect on the amazing year that has come to pass. Thank you so much for your thoughtful holiday cards and emails (it's been extra fun to see my imagery on so many of your correspondence!). Here's to wishing you and yours a bright and beautiful holiday season and new year ahead!

Below is a comic I received via email from my grandmother. Probably a bit inappropriate for my blog, but you gotta love wine humor- especially from grandma.

#12 Portland

Frommer's ranked Portland, Maine, as one of its top travel destinations for 2007 (other cities include Tokyo, Japan and Krakow, Poland). Really. USA Today assigned me to photograph two folks who will appear in an upcoming article profiling the city.

Dawn Clemens, General Manager at Fore Street Restaurant (ironically, I know Dawn! I worked with her at Pottery Barn last winter for that fab employee discount!).

Bob Witkowski, graphic design director for Portland Magazine.

A while back, I stumbled across a shower curtain in a store that became the inspiration for emilie inc: Chocolate brown and pink circles. Now, nearly two years later, I finally hung that shower curtain in my new upstairs bathroom. Fun!

Chocolate brown towels from Pottery Barn tone down the trendy pink a bit!
Other cool stuff in the new bathroom: Mercer triple sconce and Kensington tilt mirror from PB.

Big brother for D

Last month, Dakota received an early Christmas present- a big brother! My boyfriend J and his dog, Destin (an 11-year old shepard/lab/chow mix), moved to Maine from California. The two pooches are getting along fabulously.

Destin gives me a wink!

by is featuring one of my weddings in their Real Wedding section, and can be seen online by clicking this link. It is always an honor to have my work published, but as usual, the cropping of the pictures doesn't exactly do the images justice.

You can see a slideshow of their wedding I created by clicking here.

It's that time of year when the wedding madness has slowed down, allowing me a little time to breathe. Next month we're headed to Cancun for a little R&R and a little work, too. I haven't been there before and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a cool boutique hotel. I've spotted a few eco-friendly gems a little south of Cancun (Ana y Jose, Maya Tulum...). Please let me know if you have any personal favorites! Thanks in advance!

* Baby Oliver

I trekked through the first snow of the season to photograph 5 month old baby Oliver in his nursery and his family holiday photo in New Ipswich, NH, on Friday.

Such a cute expression!

* Baby Avery

How adorable is this child? Avery is 14 months old and was talking up a storm during our brisk romp on Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunk. Her cousins John, Madison and Cameron joined us for their family holiday card picture too.

Check out the ears on the back of her coat!
I asked her to show me her teeth. Too cute!

* Carolyn and Todd

The beautiful texture of the buildings in Prescott Park and Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth, NH, provided the perfect back-drop for Carolyn and Todd's wintry engagement session. Although they live in North Carolina, they will tie the knot in Carolyn's New Hampshire hometown in April.

I have many favorites, but here are just a few.

One of my brides alerted me that a wedding I photographed is the featured Real Wedding on Thanks to Jessie and Gautier for such a beautiful setting!

Ed Kashi

During college I spent a semester in London studying photography under National Geographic photographer Ed Kashi. At that time he was working on an extensive personal photography project about aging in America. Ironically, Ed is now living his work... he and his wife Julie recently moved their family from San Francisco to New Jersey to care for Julie's aging father. Take a peek at their moving video.

holiday cards

If you have a photograph you would like to use for your family's holiday card, I encourage you to check out Tasha Rae Designs. Her work is beautiful, creative and very fresh. She can even make a card from your child's artwork! To boot, she donates a chunk of her profit to several great charities.

ps- Happy 3rd Birthday, Dakota!

Fall photo contest- extended!

Starting Wednesday, I will be driving cross-country (fun!) so the Fall photo contest deadline has been extended until I return on November 17th. Keep those entries coming! They are terrific so far!

* Alie

This morning I had a quick photo session with Alie, a 5 month yellow lab mix. Isn't she adorable? She was adopted from a shelter in the South and is settling in to Maine life nicely. She attends the same daycare as Dakota.

Alie has a purple tongue!
