Kim is an art teacher at a private school near San Francisco and the parent of one of her students introduced her to Ping. They decided to get married in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, at Grosse Pointe Academy where Kim's father is the headmaster. Combining elements of education and Chinese tradition, Kim and Ping's wedding was a visual delight!

I am going to forego many of the unique storytelling images to share this visual masterpiece with you through the many thoughtful details.

Michigan is the cherry state. Kim drew their wedding logo and it appeared consistently throughout their wedding.

I drooled over the fantastically coordinated invitation, envelope liner and ribbon.

Such a cute response card.

Kim getting ready at the salon, watching her little niece get her hair done.

Red details were everywhere.

Red tulips.

The ring bearer's pillow.

Kim was lucky to have two wedding dresses!

Off for her "first look" with Ping.

Before the ceremony, seeing her father.

The ceremony was on the patio of this gorgeous academic building.

Red rose petals dotted the grand staircase.

The bridesmaids wore red dresses and carried red tulips.

Cocktails on Lake St. Clair.

The perils of uncomfortable shoes start young.

Their nephew was such a sweet ring bearer.

And he wore very cool red Chucks.

Kim and Ping were engaged in Jamaica, hence, Red Stripe! Notice the logo on the apron all the wait staff wore?

Yummy fudge.

The beautiful tent!

Kim sewed all of the tablecloths and napkins.

The fabulous cupcake display.

These top two are for Kim and Ping.

Kim learned how to play their wedding song on a ukulele and surprised Ping on stage.

Outfit change!

Their band was so fantastic!

Sliders were brought out late night.

What a weekend! Thanks for having us, Kim and Ping! Your wedding was simply stunning and we were both so happy to document your gorgeous day! If red means good luck in Chinese, you certainly have a lot of it! Hope to see you both again soon (and give Alisa a big hug and thank you from us!).

  1. Great job, you two! You work well together :)

Wow, you were right in our backyard! Hehe. Been following your blog for awhile - love your work, never expected a GP wedding to show up in here though! :) We've done many shoots at the Academy - the last time we were there we actually did a proposal down by the water, just recently. The early evening light there is amazing.

I love the table decor and details! Gabrielle's is a fantastic florist - I love their shop, it's just a stone's throw from where I live.

You did a great job - wish I had known you were in town, we would have loved to show you around. :)

  3. Wow wow wow! What a stunning wedding- all the details are just perfect! Congratulations to the newlyweds!

  4. What fantastic details. I love this wedding, and you documented it so beautifully. The shot of Kim walking toward the first look is a favorite for sure!

I am loving the linens in this wedding. We've been pounding the pavement for a red pattern and a corresponding blue pattern for our wedding, and I wish I could step into those photos and steal these red linens! She did a great job putting it all together, and the photos are great, too!

  6. I'm so proud to see such a stunning Michigan wedding (i'm in the metro detroit area)...you captured the details perfectly!!

  7. I love your pictures I am wondering about your band. We are having a Detroit wedding and how were they. Would love to have a comment from you.
