On Friday, June 5th I will be speaking on a panel at Act II: Setting the Stage for the Next Step in Your Work and Career at USM Osher Lifelong Learning Institute about my experience leaving the newspaper world in Washington, DC, and growing a wedding business in Maine.
Act II is an interactive daylong forum for those in professional transition, either by choice (a desire for something different) or circumstances (a layoff, for example). Unlike a traditional job fair (though it would compliment one), Act II focuses on the head and the heart in transition, covering both the practical piece of transition (with workshops like using social media, tapping the hidden job market, etc.) but also the personal process (with workshops on topics like putting your transition in perspective, a keynote speech on finding your edge by turning worry into action, a panel of success stories and lots of time for guided reflection).
