If you follow me on Twitter, you have probably noticed I've been messaging more than usual lately about @gusandruby, better known as Gus & Ruby, Portsmouth's newest stationery and invitation boutique.

Brides, if you're looking for a local invitation experience, I am oh-so thrilled that I can point you in the direction Gus & Ruby, and the talented gals behind their dogs' names-inspired shop, Samantha and Whitney. Their letterpress offerings are incredible, as are the perfectly picked paper products and gifts. Some favorite brands include Dauphine Press, The Lettered Olive, Smock and The Happy Envelope.

You'll recall I photographed these four in June, the day they signed the lease on their storefront. In just four short weeks they transformed an old building in desperate need of some TLC into a stylish, inviting shop and treated their friends, family and wedding vendors to an inside peek at their result last Thursday night before opening to the public on Friday. I was lucky to attend, and photographed all the hugs and champagne sipping. I've posted a few images below, and you must head over to their website and blog to see more!

Hanging up a party-in-progress sign on the door, as curious shoppers were eager to join the celebrating.

The bridal table served as snack central. Delicious cookies and doughnut holes from Congdon's (a Maine favorite).

Their windows, previously wrapped in brown paper, today finally revealed a sweet stationery scene for passers-by.

Inside, in addition to volumes of invitation lines, the card wall displays a variety of hand-picked social stationery.

Big smiles all around on this night.

Fortunately, it was a beautiful evening and guests spilled their celebrating out onto the sidewalk.

Congratulations, Sam and Whitney! You did it! I am unbelievably proud of you and am SO excited for your early success. There's no stopping you two!

  1. SO sad I couldn't be there.... but girl, you rocked the photos as usual... I mean OF COURSE... like I would expect any less ;)

  2. I'm a letterpress junkie and this shop is absolutely adorable!
Great job capturing the shop + event!

  3. Your original photo shoot and this post have me drooling. I want to shop there, work there, or even just hang out outside the window. If they ever open a branch in LA...

  4. Just called them about getting some things done for me. Thanks for sharing them!
