I met Christine three years ago at a photography tradeshow in New York City, PDN's PhotoPlus Expo, where she was working at the Simply Canvas booth. A fan of their product, I reached out to see if Simply Canvas might want to sponsor my Roots Workshop and Christine was my point of contact. Simply Canvas has been a fantastic sponsor for the workshop since, and lo and behold, when Christine became engaged to her college sweetheart, she thought of me to do to documentary honors!

So hot on the heels of this summer's Roots Workshop, J and I (and our portable Maine Snapshot Studio) were Ohio-bound to meet up with Christine, her sweetie Matt and their families in the little town of Stow, a suburb of Cleveland, Christine and Matt's current residence. We had a gorgeous day for their outdoor ceremony and country club reception (minus a little heat exhaustion scare) and enjoyed exploring somewhere new.

How they met, in Christine's words:
Matt and I met at the end of our sophomore year of college. He says I made the first move by sitting on his lap at a party. Truth is, there just wasn't anywhere else to sit. Our final days of spring term involved improv dancing down Lewis Ave at 1am, 1 on 1 basketball at the rec and opting for dairy queen runs instead of studying for finals. As fate would have it, we both stayed at school for the summer (him to train for football and me to teach tennis lessons at the local country club). Up until that July 4th, we swore we were just friends until a random person asked us if we were boyfriend and girlfriend. And suddenly, at that very moment, there was no more denying what was real. Four years later, I'm marrying my best friend.

Take a peek at their album and a few highlight images of the day below.

Matt's grandfather caught the garter!

Congratulations, Christine and Matt! And a warm thank you to your families for welcome us like one of them. We're hoping Jamaica isn't too hot for you right now and wish you both the best of luck with the exciting changes in store for you both!

  1. Ahhhhhhhh! Oh Emilie- So exciting to look back on that day again! It went so fast. These photos are completely amazing and she is going to absolutely love them. I am so happy you guys found eachother that day in NY. My hubby and I are planning a family trip out to Maine within the next two years or so. I'd love it if you could do our family shots when we're out there! Love love love your stunning work! As an amateur photographer, I am so so inspired.
