Jenny and her mother June, who I liked instantly as my mother's name is June, too!, came to the studio last summer for a first meeting and didn't make it as far as the sidewalk outside before coming back to sign a contract. Jenny and her fiance Lee, both based in Portland, have been together an impressive 10 years, having lived together for 7, after meeting in college and staying together as they each completed school (Lee at med school and now a surgical resident, and Jenny, a masters in public health and now a doctorate in epidemiology!). They both loved the wooded tranquility of Migis and knew it would be the perfect place to host their intimate wedding. Indeed it was.

Just under 80 guests were transported to seemingly another time (a movie set is how I heard it described by many guests) with a perfectly comfortable 70-degree day, lovely folk music and laughter all day long. With J and new emilie inc. associate Sharon, we triple-teamed the day and captured a variety of angles as the day unfolded.

Take a peek at their album design below or by clicking here to view in a separate window.

Last weekend's wedding at Migis was on the grass next to the lake. This week's was nestled under a grove of pine trees in front of the main lodge.

Guests enjoyed the water before the festivities got underway.

Could there be a more sweet place for a bride to get ready with friends?

Jenny and Lee opted to see each other before the ceremony.

Then it was off to the ceremony, escorted here by her brother, who was telling Jenny how proud he was of her.

Tho there weren't many reception formalities or dancing, our Maine Snapshot Studio was a huge hit in the evening.

Congratulations, Jenny and Lee! Happy Trails to you both, and we hope to see you around Portland soon! xo

* Anneli and David marry in Boston

by

emilie inc. photographer: Whitney
church: Trinity Church Boston
lunch reception: Back Bay Hotel Boston
florist: Rory Weinberg Poppies
make-up: Lisa Dean
hair: Sharon, Interlox
gown: bride's grandmother's dress
invitations: DIY

Whitney had the opportunity to photograph a most unique wedding, detailed below, but at the couple's request to privacy we will only be showing a few of their images here.

The day started in Amesbury at Anneli's parents' house. Their beautiful home was built in the early 1800's and should be featured in a magazine. It has an idyllic view of the Merrimack River. After getting her hair done and picking up the flowers, Anneli, her younger sister, and her parents made the drive to Anneli's home in Boston. Anneli and her mother, Carol, had their makeup done while her father, Joe, walked Sassafrass, Anneli's amicable 11-year old retriever who chases shadows.

The wedding dress was made by her great-grandmother, worn by her grandmother, and altered to fit Anneli, who looked like the dress was made for her. Wearing her mother's pearls and carrying a bouquet of soft pink and ivory flowers, Anneli had an air of a romantic, vintage Victorian period about her.

There were congratulatory words and cheers from pedestrians during the walk through downtown Boston to Trinity Church. The intimate ceremony included both a justice of the peace and a church officiant. The 10 guests, mostly all family, participated and surrounded them closely during the entire ceremony. After some photos at the church, we walked to The Back Bay Hotel (formerly Jury's) for the reception.

Light hors d'oeuvres, a delicious buffet lunch, and champagne were enjoyed by all. Guests knew they were headed somewhere after the reception, but were only told to pack a bag. Two guesses made by Anneli's sister and David's mother were half right. Anneli and David announced they were flying everyone to New York city for a night on the town, staying in SoHo!! Anneli made neat carry-on bags for everyone, aptly stocked with reading materials and snacks for the flight and an itinerary of their unique wedding weekend. They took a cab and a hotel car to Logan Airport and flew to New York to continue their wedding.

Can you imagine receiving a wedding invitation with this insert? So cool!

Very Import Escort to the church.

Passing out trip itineraries!

And off they go.

What a way to celebrate! We are so happy for you, Anneli and David. Thank you for inviting Whitney to capture this intimate, memorable day. We hope you and your families enjoyed New York. Congratulations!

introducing Denise to emilie inc.

by

Two years ago I received an enthusiastic application (definitely one of the best cover letters I have ever received) for an associate photographer opening. But because of an email glitch its sender never received my reply. Fortunately, she stayed in touch and as of this week, she's emilie inc.'s newest employee.

Meet Denise, our image manager and- at long last- associate photographer! Denise will be working at the studio three days a week making all of our image files look pretty, sharing and printing our photographs, and overseeing our server (among other things). And on the weekends, you'll likely find her as a second photographer for myself, J or Whitney (she will be shooting weddings on her own as a principal photographer next season).

Denise is originally from Bangor and has lived in Vermont and Oregon as well. She relocated with her husband, Jon, (and doggie and kitty) back to Maine in 2008 and loves being home. She has worked for the Bangor Daily News, the Valley News (a paper on the NH/VT border where I applied to be an intern in college and was rejected!), and the Portland Tribune. When not taking pictures, Denise loves spending time with her horse, Henry, cooking, and traveling to new places near and far. You'll have to catch our updated website team page in the coming weeks to learn Denise's fun facts. :)

We're so happy to have you here, Denise, and look forward to a fun wedding season! Hooray!

* Erin and Ryan's engagement session in Portland, Maine

by

Bostonians Erin and Ryan came up to Portland for an engagement session with Whitney (and J!) as a first introduction and chance to chat about their fall Cape Cod nuptials. After a bit of bubbly and an outfit change, these two, who met through a mutual love of comedy, had Whitney and J in stitches as they traipsed about the East End and the Old Port.

* Melissa and David marry at the New England Center in Durham, New Hampshire

ceremony: St. Mary's Catholic Church Rochester, NH
officiant: Rev. Dan Sinibaldi

florist: Jillian Tammaro Cole Gardens
dj: Dan Meehan
cake: family friend
hair/make-up: Amy Colbath Extreme Hair
transportation: Great Bay Limousine
gown: Mori Lee at Cassie's Bridal

honeymoon: Bahamas

Melissa, her mom and her sister met with emilie inc. associate photographer Whitney a year ago to talk about her soon-to-be husband and the plans they already had in place for their wedding day.

How they met, according to Melissa:
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...there was a pair of crazy geeks that met at prom. They bonded over billiards, power metal, lactose intolerance, and a mutual love of Star Wars. They have been inseparable since that fateful meeting in May of 2003, and look forward to spending the rest of their lives together and perhaps one day having a tiny geek of their very own...

They chose the New England Center for their afternoon reception based on both of their mothers' recommendations and the "treehouse" feel of the venue nestled in the forest. Some sunshine and darling nephews were the perfect secret ingredients for their wedding that went off without a hitch!

Many happy congratulations, Melissa and David! Hoping your honeymoon to the Bahamas was divine, and your life together as sweet as that homemade cake looks! Thank you!
