Whitney started the day photographing at Betsy's house in South Portland before traveling by trolley to the darling Spurwink Church in Cape Elizabeth, a place she and Fred chose to be married after spending many years driving and running by during trips to the beach, kayaking and training for road races. After, they spent a bit of time in the Old Port taking formal photos with their bridal party before boarding a ferry for their reception at the Inn on Peaks on Peaks Island. Great summer colors and details make this wedding pop. And can we please talk about that photo of them together as teenagers? How powerfully awesome to have such a beautiful history together captured in an enchanting photograph.
How they met, in their own words:
We have been together on and off for the past 12 years. We first met in high school, where we ran on the track team together and lived in the same neighborhood... then continued to date in college and afterwards, though sometimes taking breaks to travel, date other people, or pursue our own interests and different jobs. While Fred was in the Peace Corps in Zambia, Africa for two years, we wrote letters back and forth from Africa to Boston. Those letters helped us solidify our relationship and strengthen our communication, and we each still have a stack of letters hidden in the back of our closet.
We finally "got it together for good" during the spring of 2009 when we decided that our lives were better together than with other people. Fred proposed one year later, at the top of Mt. Lafayette in the White Mountains (New Hampshire). We have a photo of the exact moment, because he set the camera up on a self timer!
We are both teachers, which leaves our summers free for adventure! We both love hiking, camping, and the outdoors. We love to read, go to the beach, and run... we've run the Boston Marathon and many other races together. We also love to travel and have recently taken camping road trips through Colorado and New Mexico, Nova Scotia, and will honeymoon in Colombia.
