I had the pleasure of getting to shoot Elizabeth and Evan's engagement session last fall at Elizabeth's parents house on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. I immediately sensed that this was a special place for her and her family. When I returned to photograph the wedding and met her there for preparations, I again met a family that had an obvious love for one another and sincerely enjoyed each other's company. Sisters living in Denver and Palo Alto returned to the summer lake house to get ready for the wedding at Church Landing. One of my favorite things about the house was the wall of ski resort portraits from years of family winter vacations. I got my photography start at just these type of ski operations, so everything came full circle for me seeing them take such a prominent role.
Evan's family was friends with the minister and she was terrific in adding a warm, personal feeling to the ceremony. Elizabeth's sisters gave an excellent toast which included a text message stream from years earlier when she had first met Evan, so fun to hear how exciting the beginning of a relationship can be on the 1st day together as husband and wife. Furthering on the family personal touches, Evan's mom made their wedding cake!
Congrats E&E, I hope you had a great trip and that NYC continues to treat you so well!
How they met, in their own words:
We met in early 2009 when we were both graduate students in the Department of Art History at Columbia University. We started dating soon after we met and fell in love soon after we started dating. In 2010, we graduated together (Evan with a PhD and Elizabeth with a Masters) and our families met for the first time at our graduation party. We moved in together in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. Evan works as a professor and Elizabeth works at an art gallery in Manhattan. We became engaged in 2011. Our wedding will have a 20th century art theme. The logo is based on a characteristic mark Cy Twombly used in a lot of his paintings. There will be a number of art-related elements to the wedding reception....
