Chloe and Michael are absolutely adorable. Chloe's touch of a fiery personality is complemented by Michael's calm demeanor. They are refreshingly real people, very much in love, and excited to marry each other. Chloe says she is not a morning person, but Michael is. She'll wake up and he'll have already gone for a run, walked the dog, and made her breakfast. Michael admittedly worries about time and being late. They have known one another since middle school, essentially growing up together in Houston, Texas where their wedding will be next summer. Michael attended the summer camp Chewonki in Wiscasset, Maine, when he was young and now his niece and nephew are attending. The family decided to make a little vacation out of dropping the kids off, so 13 of Michael's family were staying at the Grey Havens Inn in Georgetown when I met him and Chloe. Chloe says both she and Michael come from big Mexican families. In my short time with them, I could see how strong those familial ties are. Michael's sister did Chloe's hair and makeup. Chloe says she never wears makeup, but she looked beautiful. Michael and I agreed she was channeling Salma Hayek!
With almost the rainiest June on record according to a local weather reporter, we lucked out with a beautiful, sunny day for their engagement session. Reid State Park, just up the road from Grey Havens Inn, was a no-brainer for a backdrop. The trees and lush greenery was important to Chloe and Michael. Their wedding ceremony will actually take place under a huge oak tree, so they wanted to capture that spirit in Maine and will use the photos for Save-the-Dates and on their wedding day. The two are very outdoorsy, camp and hike often, and run; Michael is a marathon runner! They love Houston, but say Maine's beauty and the lifestyle would fit theirs if they ever had to move.
Chloe's smile and laugh are infectious, and Michael got a little more comfortable in front of the camera as a result of that and smooching his bride-to-be -- plus a little white wine always does the trick! They're affectionate and playful with each other, and were up for anything during my time with them. After seeking out some woodsy shots and an outfit change, we headed to the beach for sunset (and where the wind helped keep the mosquitoes away!), and then back to Grey Havens for a few sweet moments on their porch swing. The inn is adorable and was bought and revitalized two years ago by Eve and her husband, who had an inn in Kennebunk for 10 years. It is quiet, serene, minutes from Reid State Park, and a short drive to downtown Bath -- a great escape if you're looking to get a way from it all.
I am so happy to have met Chloe and Michael, and I am excited they are getting married. They knew right away they were meant for each other and that natural connection was apparent to me. Thank you both for allowing me to spend the evening with you and capture some personal moments together. It was an absolute pleasure. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
