Mother/daughter portrait session on Lake Winnipesaukee

Amanda is what I would liken to an emilie inc. groupie. She contacted me long before she was engaged (two years!), an avid blog follower. We swapped excited emails when her fiance John finally popped the question, and I was emotional for her on her wedding day last fall like an old friend. The emails and text messages have continued even tho the wedding is over- often about things that remind us of one another or a little message for little Will (Amanda is one of his fans, too).

Not long after the wedding, however, Amanda's mom had a health scare- an unexpected, scary circumstance that made everyone, myself included, pause and reflect on how easy it is for our everyday normal to become anything but. Come Mother's Day, Amanda knew the perfect gift she wanted to share with her mom- a portrait session for just the two of them, best friends, at their summer home on Lake Winnipesaukee.

I have never done a session like this before, but found myself getting choked up at several points throughout the afternoon imagining what this family had been through since I last saw them. I was grateful in that moment more than most to be a photographer, to observe and share in their beautiful, kind, loving connection.

Thank you so much for asking me to do this, Amanda, and for rocking your wedding outfits (and the stand up paddleboard!) once more. xo

  1. Love, love, love! What an awesome gift for her mom. I don't blame you for getting choked up, Em. I was just reading this post!
