Maggie and Aaron had a sweet, simple, down-to-earth wedding celebration at the Pot and Kettle in Bar Harbor. Albeit a tad long, I love the drive up to Mt. Desert Island and found myself saying, "I could totally live up here." An island, Acadia National Park, ocean, New England -- I love it. Aaron had all of this as his backyard, growing up there, and now it's his playground, where he works as a lobsterman. Maggie is a teacher in Boston and the two will eventually be moving down there, but I'm certain they will always call MDI home.
Maggie was a little bit of a nervous nelly, while Aaron was per usual "cool as a cucumber," as Maggie's dad accurately assessed both his daughter and soon-to-be son-in-law's pre-ceremony demeanor's. Maggie looked beautiful in her dress. Her bridesmaids and I were surprised how tiny she looked for being six months pregnant! Maggie is a rock star -- she ran the Boston Marathon this year while pregnant! Coincidentally, Maggie and the lead female singer of her band both realized at the wedding reception that they had trained for the marathon together!
Maggie's brother gave an emotional reading during the ceremony and everyone lost it. Maggie's dad let her use his mother's wedding band for the ceremony, a ring he never removes from his own finger. Maggie's actual wedding band was a little snug on her finger due to the pregnancy, and she is actually allergic to metal, except platinum, so the gesture from her father was extra sweet. Post-ceremony there was an excited but relaxed vibe, the jitters were gone with the ceremony under their belt, and smiles ensued all around. This wedding party was hilarious, both the guys and gals, and bride and groom, had me laughing out loud at some points. Jokes aside, I witnessed a very real connection between two refreshingly real people. When I snuck Maggie and Aaron out for a few moments later in the evening, my heart smiled when I heard Maggie say to Aaron, "After today, it's not about us, it's all about this guy," both hands on her belly. Of course, Maggie, you know we have the same vote on the name!
Delicious food from Bobby at Country Fare, a beautiful location compliments of Kay at the Pot and Kettle, bumping tunes from George and the band The Free Downloads (who I most recently saw at Emily and John's wedding on Peaks!), and tight group of family and friends rounded out a sweet wedding celebration for Maggie and Aaron. Congratulations! I hope you enjoyed yourselves on Peter Island in the BVI's. Thank you for allowing me to spend such a special day with you. I hope we cross paths again. I couldn't be happier for you two -- and Reed :) !
