They had me at Cape Cod.
Jordan's mother found me online after stumbling across Love and Lobster last year. Jordan and Geoff were living in DC at the time, so we agreed to meet in Boston sometime before the wedding day to say hello and go over logistics. They made a special trip up over Memorial Day weekend, and so, we started the summer together with her parents sipping iced coffees in a North End's cafe's open window on Hanover Street. I loved them all immediately.
The summer, of course, passed way too quickly, but what fun it was to recently reconnect with everyone again on the Cape at the beautiful home they had rented for the festivities off Shore Road in Chatham. The maids were buzzing about in cute cropped pink shorts and Wear Love tee's, the design project of mom Lynne that benefits children in Africa. Each room was designated with a name on the door (and darling different wallpapers), busy with hair, make-up and dressing. After being slightly stalled with a hair situation and a bridesmaid dress situation (as in, the poor dear's zipper broke and she had to be sewn into it!), we were off to the front lawn for a first look with Geoff who had arrived with the guys via trolley before heading to the lovely Wequassett Resort.
Winding down a set of steep stairs or a brick path along the water's edge, the ceremony site at the inn feels like a sunken secret garden. White garden chairs and joyful, moving music set the tone for an emotional evening ceremony at dusk. Once official, the wedding party took to the dock and had a blast creating some fun (and funny) imagery before things moved inside for the evening's formalities. The night went by in a quick blur and before we knew it, Megan and I were headed back to our rooms for the night with full bellies from the yummy meal recounting our favorite parts of the day.
I grew up vacationing on Cape Cod not too far from the Wequassett and my parents actually had their wedding reception there, too! This, my second wedding at the inn as a photographer, was a curious experience for me as I wondered what it was like then knowing how much has changed now. I found myself being more reflective than usual at this particular wedding likely because of that, and drawn specifically to observing the relationship between Jordan's parents throughout the day. A beautiful balance between them that was highlighted at various points and was easily apparent that they are wonderful parents. As a parent myself I see weddings through such different eyes now!
So very happy for Jordan and Geoff, their families and friends, too. This was a tight knit crew and I feel very blessed to have been given the opportunity to capture it all. xo
How they met, in their own words:
We met in Orlando, FL in the summer of 2008 when Jordan was interning for NBC news station. Geoff is from Deland, Florida just outside Orlando. We met at church. We love to have fun! We love our friends and family. Jordan grew up going to Chatham every summer with her family for vacation. She has always wanted to get married in Chatham because of the fond memories; digging for steamers, watching the Chatham A's play baseball, the penny candy store, and fishing with her sister and brothers.
