This couple, Gina & Brandon, and I had a few things in common, one of which they actually aren't aware of.  They were married on September 2nd, over Labor Day weekend, which was my sixth anniversary with my husband, Jon.  I didn't mention this to them because I didn't want them to feel bad that I was at their beautiful wedding instead of celebrating with my hubby.  Labor Day weekend is always a popular weekend for weddings so I have no expectation of having it off and we always plan a post-wedding getaway to mark the occasion later on.  So not only do we now have an anniversary in common, Gina and Brandon also had the same first dance song as Jon and I!  I may have gotten a little nostalgic as I photographed them swaying along to Van Morrison's "Into the Mystic".  And finally, Brandon is from a small town, Prescott, Arizona, that I visited just this past February before I was aware of that little tidbit.  Prescott isn't really a destination hot spot so it is kind of unusual that I had heard of it, let alone recently been there.  A friend of mine from Oregon knows of a horse ranch near Prescott so she decided to meet me in Vegas (I was there for WPPI) and we took a road trip to Arizona to see some ponies.  Prescott is a great little town that I loved visiting, and I even took home a parking ticket as a souvenir along with some very cool silver feather earrings!

I love when you can have so much in common with people you've just met, it makes me feel like the world wanted us to connect somehow.  It was a pleasure to photograph these two lovebirds on their big day with their fun-loving friends and family.  Gina's mother even made her dress (!) and had to make some last minute adjustments after a dry cleaning altered things a little.  She came through like a pro and just beamed when she saw her gorgeous daughter wearing it, complete with her veil.  Then at the ceremony Brandon's father gave a sweet reading that had him, and I think everyone else, a bit teared up. Later, they all danced in the tent until the very last minute, and maybe a few minutes past the designated end time of 9 pm, and continued the party in downtown Portsmouth.

Gina & Brandon, all the best to you both and I hope we get to connect again in the future!  I know I'll think of you when September 2nd, 2013 arrives, it'll be a happy anniversary all around ;)

How they met, in their own words:
We met while living in Boulder, Colorado. We both worked at a restaurant called Kerrigan's (which is now the name of our adorable 2 year old golden retriever). The restaurant didn't do so well so we had a lot of time to hang out and get to know each other. Brandon says Gina was the first to ask him out but Gina insists it was JUST a hike up her favorite mountain. We were having so much fun the hike continued on to sneaking into a private hotel pool, an outdoor movie (ET... what a great movie) and then a video rental at Brandon's. Seven years later here we are. It lasted through 4 degrees, 3 different states and has landed us in Phoenix, Arizona. We are so excited to be tying the knot and happy to get married right around the corner from where Gina grew up and went to college (UNH). Their families have played such an integral part of the wedding and have been amazing. So much so that Gina's mom is making her wedding dress and using parts of her wedding dress, which was her mom's original dress. We waited a long time for this day and have done everything we can to make this amazing and perfect for us! We are so thankful for those that can help us celebrate!
