I had the pleasure of photographing an event for the Lunder-Dineen Health Education Alliance of Maine. The Portland Museum of Art was the perfect back drop for the short event. The space right when you walk into the museum, the Selma Wolf Black Great Hall, provided just a enough room for the attendees and some large-scale pieces of art to eye. Compositions did a beautiful job with the flowers, who were told to create wedding-themed arrangements. It was nice to bump into Leslie of Aurora Provisions (she also runs the PMA Cafe), who provided the cocktail-style food and passed hors d'oeuvres that looked so tasty! To top it off, I ran into the father, grandfather, and some other family of bride Melissa, whose Peaks Island wedding to Steve I photographed almost a year ago! Melissa's grandmother, her father Kevin's mother, was a Lunder, so it was a family event of sorts. It was nice to see my wedding photography world intertwine with this event so nicely!
The people of the Lunder-Dineen Health Education Alliance of Maine do some amazing things. The non-profit is a collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and strives to improve the health and well-being of Maine residents and their healthcare providers. By expanding health knowledge through certified education programs for Maine healthcare professionals to advance their skills and by offering health education programs for consumers to learn -- all for free, mind you -- the bigger idea is that Maine will be a healthier state.
When I first arrived into the U.S. upon my adoption from South Korea, my mother was still working nights at Mass General as a nurse, Supervisor of the ICUs. She fought for her right as a mother to be the first person at MGH to go on "adoption leave" as a woman would have typically gone on "maternity leave" after their child's birth, so the hospital has always had a special place in my heart. I was honored to be surrounded by such heavy-hitting professionals and medical doctors from this place, all there for a great cause to help make my dear Maine healthier.
Lindsey, Labrini, Denise, Marjorie, and Jeanette, it was such a pleasure to meet you all as well as some of your Alliance team members and supporters! Good luck with your continued efforts to help Mainers -- we thank you!
