Photographing weddings, we are witness to a variety of fun and creative themes that are brought to life through details great and small: venue, flowers, food, color palettes, and patterns to name a few. From what I've noticed, the most effective themes take many details directly from the lives of the couple. Certainly this was the case at Amanda and David's elegant wedding in Kennebunkport.
As you will read below, our fair couple met on a 'very competitive' congressional campaign in 2008. In following, their seaside wedding and reception at the Colony Hotel would have the feel of a Maine vacation mixed with the flair of a political campaign, plus a dash of New Jersey thrown in to represent the couple's home state.
Following a lovely oceanfront ceremony on the grounds of St Ann's chapel, guests and the wedding party made their way to the grand Colony Hotel, where the entrance was festooned with bunting. Red, White and Blue were prominent, lobster was all over the menu, and Amanda lit up the dance floor to Bruce Springsteen's 'Jersey Girl'. Stunning with her long train and veil, Amanda matched steps with David, decked out in seersucker and bow tie. Campaign style pins (Woloshen/Glass - A More Perfect Union) were adorned by supporters, and an antique ballot box received personalized notes from friends and family. The Chris Humphrey Big Band played classics into the evening, mobilizing a serious constituent of dancers, and finally, sparklers and cigars were lit to celebrate a successful endeavor.
Enjoy your tropical honeymoon, newlyweds! Sounds like you'll have a busy fall moving and shaking down the campaign trail...
How they met, in Amanda's words:
Our careers (and our lives) both revolve around politics and government.
I am a Republican political strategist, having managed many campaigns
and worked in multiple Congressional offices. David has also spent his
career spearheading political campaigns and working within government.
We met in 2008 on a very competitive congressional campaign. I guess
you could say our relationship blossomed over cold pizza and long (very
long) hours on the campaign trail. I'm happy to report that we won that
campaign and much, much more. Working together certainly is the greatest
test of a relationship and the more time we spent together the happier
we became. Currently I am the State Director for Congressman Leonard
Lance in my home state of New Jersey. David now works for New Jersey
Governor Chris Christie as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Department of
