Moosehead Lake, Maine, wedding of Allison and Anders

It rained so hard the roof leaked in the cabin we were staying at in Greenville the night before Allison and Anders' wedding on Moosehead Lake. I didn't have cell reception to check the weather forecast, but was keeping my fingers crossed when all the locals were confidently telling us it would blow out by the afternoon of their wedding.

And you know what? It did! 10 minutes after we had started their outside ceremony during a break in some "misting" that quickly turned to a downpour sending everyone to the barn for cover! Sweet Allison had only made it down the aisle, and then politely turned to her guests, shrugged her shoulders and said, "Let's go in the barn!!" Inside, the band paused in their setting up to allow for a quick, cozy exchange of vows (with the addition of a "in sunshine and in rain" line) and rings. Pronounced husband and wife, they left the barn arm and arm to be greeted by the most beautiful sunlight outside!!

Chilled, we made it through portraits and then everyone lingered over a lovely cocktail hour and multi-course dinner in the dining room. The food at the Blair Hill Inn is a-mazing, as is their wonderful staff and stunning accommodations. It's quite the little gem up there on Lily Bay Road if you ever have the chance to visit.

Following dinner, everyone moved into the barn for one of the best dance parties I have ever been to, and an incredible spread of treats by Wild Orchid Baking Company including chocolate covered bacon! I kept hearing guests remark again and again that it was the best band, and the best desserts, they had ever seen at a wedding. I, too, was totally impressed.

The next morning I met Allison and Anders for a portrait session at some of their favorite places around town. Their favorite activity is fly fishing, and I was lucky to be asked to join them. I loved capturing a glimpse into their everyday lives together after one of their most significant. Now about those babies you asked me to photograph in Chicago one day, Allison... keep me posted! Would love to do that, too!

How they met, in Allison's words:

Anders and I met at work. Unbeknownst to me, Anders caught a glimpse as I walked past his office to interview with the managing partner. One look at the "long legs and blonde hair" and he went running over to his secretary to find out who I was. I was offered a job at the firm, and started about 6 weeks later. I was given a tour of the firm, and introduced to all of the attorneys. When I was finally introduced to Anders, his reaction was "no wedding ring" and mine was "wow, don't you know that the empty drawers and cabinets in your office are there to hold the giant piles of papers on your desk?" It was a great first meeting. Anders took me on our first official date about 2 months after that meeting. He likes to tell people that he strategically planned to take me to the art museum, but didn't make dinner reservations for after, just in case it wasn't going well. Apparently it went well because he took me to dinner, where the couple at the table next to us matter of factly said that he was out of his league.

I wanted a destination wedding that felt like a vacation. Anders' agreed, but requested that the wedding be held in a place where we had a personal connection. Anders' family has vacationed on the coast of Maine or decades. Anders and I fell in love while vacationing in the Northwoods of Wisconsin at his grandparent's hunting cabin. We love fishing and hiking, so we chose a place where we would be immersed by the northwoods feel, and enjoy our favorite activities. We wanted a small wedding, so the Blair Hill Inn provided the perfect venue and Moosehead lake provided the awe inspiring background. The area streams and woods are perfect for fishing and hiking, and accommodate our new favorite past-time - fly fishing!
