Pop-up portraits for Pink Initiative recap

To kick-off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we recently hosted an afternoon of mini portrait sessions at Portland's East End Beach to benefit Pink Initiative, the 501 (c)(3) non-profit for breast cancer I founded in 2008. Each session was much shorter than our typical portrait sessions, just 25 minutes long, which resulted in some swift and often-hilarious picture-taking. We set a timer to keep us on track as we chatted and photographed, exploring the beach, rocks and paths fascinated by how the light seemed to change by the minute.

Among those who signed up were familiar faces- wedding clients and friends- and new faces, too, such as Kerry and her fiance Cuyler. These two lovebirds are getting married next month (her mom's diamond is featured in her beautiful engagement ring below). Kerry's mom passed away from breast cancer when she was a teenager and naturally, she's a little anxious about what her mom's absence will be like at her wedding. Kerry's story and strength embody exactly why the work we do for Pink Initiative is so very important. We'll be thinking of you next month, Kerry!

I came home beaming from the afternoon, so happy to have had the opportunity to spend some time with such incredible people for such an important cause. Many thanks to Whitney and Denise, too, who also photographed.
