Portland Yacht Club fall family portrait

I didn't realize how chilly the weather was the day I met the Morse family for their family portrait session.  The sun was out and it was one of those marvelous fall days with leaves falling and crisp air.  Little Ella and Boden were troopers on the beach at the Portland Yacht Club, where Matt's parents are members.  But there were plenty of treasures to be found - cool rocks, shells, and sea glass - so that kept everyone busy for a while, even the dogs Harrison and Charlotte.  Charlotte likes to find a rock and walk around with it in her mouth!  Too funny!  Emilie photographed Karen and Matt's wedding a quick eight years ago.  How fast time flies, eh?  I loved seeing how they came to be this wonderful little family in that time.

A quick warm-up at Matt's parents' house up the road, before headed to Starbucks for hot chocolate and chai tea.  We even ended up snapping a few on the lawn behind Starbucks!  As a photojournalist, I have found myself shooting in places that challenge me to make it look like elsewhere and needing to be creative, shooting on the fly to make a great photo, and this was one of those times.  I love being able to find a little patch of grass, some nice light, and make some family memories.  I love that spontaneity that captures a special moment.

Karen, Matt, Ella, Boden, and pups, thank you so much for allowing me to spend the afternoon with you!
