My family photographed

by

Driving home today I spied a tree whose leaves are beginning to turn a bright red in places. It's dark, and I mean dark, by 7:30p. Kids are headed back to school. And this weekend, we turn the calendar to September. September! How did that happen so fast, I wonder (every year!)?

Summer was jam-packed with wedding work, per usual, and quality time with the kiddos. When I wasn't editing or blogging, I was lucky to be with my family at the beach, on a playground, visiting friends, going for walks, hikes and adventures to new places, chasing caterpillars, watching boats, or simply enjoying blueberries from the yard or popsicles on our deck each night. I've definitely earned more laugh lines and can't say I regret the dark circles under my eyes from working way past midnight each night with a newborn who keeps me up later still as it's been a wonderful summer.

Whitney, Denise, Megan and Steve recently all spent a little time with us, each documenting my family's daily afternoon routine. Simple, sweet, and not particularly exciting but most definitely meaningful, these are the kinds of images that we all adore and strive to capture, be it during a portrait session or at a wedding. No Photoshop filters, just real life- pure and beautiful as it is.

Hats off to my incredible staff for their hard work, and hugs all around for loving my family like your own. xoxo

The Cow Island wedding of Brittany and Jeffrey

by

As their officiant and good friend of theirs said, Brittany and Jeffrey are not a traditional couple. They chose to marry on an island and the site of an old battle fort, after road tripping to Maine and falling in love with both each other and the area. The weather was perfect for the afternoon boat ride to Cow Island and a ceremony in the trees overlooking the water. Brittany and Jeffrey wrote their own vows to exchange in front of close friends and family members.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour complete with a zipline. It was quite the hit, especially with the younger crowd. It is always an interesting maneuver to get the harness over a wedding dress, so I wasn't positive if Brittany would take part, but I should have known better. She was pro as she zipped over the lawn, cheered on by guests and followed close behind by Jeffrey.

It was a casual reception with no formal toasts or dances, which made for a great summer party atmosphere. The dinner cooked up by the folks at Cow Island was delicious, as always. Brittany and Jeffrey are two amazingly nice people, so I knew that their family and friends would be wonderful, too. Everyone enjoyed mingling amongst each other, climbing the fort for a view over the bay, walking the rocky beach, sending wishes to the newlyweds and making gourmet s'mores around a bonfire. As per request, the DJ played Beatles tunes all night long.

It was the perfect celebration for such a warm, loving, laid-back couple. I know you two will make each other happy always. Congratulations!

How they met, in their own words:

Brittany & Jeffrey met at a garden party on East 82nd Street, hosted by a mutual work friend. Brittany worked in the Legal Department on the 25th floor, while Jeffrey worked in the Art Department on the 24th floor. Yet their paths had never crossed—until that beautiful June afternoon. She was 29; he was 25. She lived downtown; he lived uptown. She's from the West Coast; he's from the East Coast. But in that garden romance bloomed and an inter-office relationship ensued.
A few months later they embarked on their first [of many] road trips. They picked up a rental car at the Newark Airport and drove through the day to Freeport, Maine, in search of his and hers LL Bean boots. The next day, on a whim, they stopped in Portland—a city they'd heard of, but didn’t know much about—to track down lunch. They found themselves at the Porthole Restaurant on Custom House Wharf, in Portland’s Old Port neighborhood, and were hooked—on Portland, and each other.
