What a wedding to kick off the season! I had such a lovely time, as did Megan, photographing these two and their friends and families. I was laughing within seconds of arriving as Ebony and her bridesmaids got ready with the ever fabulous Joanne McDonough of Joya Beauty and Lena Hartford from Hair that Moves. This wedding party was bordering on just a little too attractive, but I forgave them because they are a hilarious and goofy group of ladies. Ebony and her sisters also share a beautiful tattoo of an apple tree symbolizing their family, which was such a sweet visual connection between them all.
In a rather nontraditional move, Dave awaited Ebony on the dock before the ceremony so they could have a quick moment alone before walking down the aisle together. I had met Ebony almost two years prior, but hadn't had the chance to meet Dave before arriving on the boat. We said a quick hello and I instantly saw how much sense these two made together.
Later on during cocktail hour, Ebony was gathering her sisters and cousins together for a quick photo, and I noticed Dave standing nearby, drink in hand, just kind of watching it come together. He looked over and told me that he had read a "pro tip" somewhere that said if he got separated from Ebony after the ceremony, that they might find it hard to get back together with all the guests to see. So he planned on staying right by her side so that wouldn't happen. What a groom!
He stayed true to his word and these two had a touching, and super fun reception with heartfelt toasts and some serious dancing.
Thank you SO much for having us, Ebony and Dave, and for starting off this season just perfectly.
How they met:
We met in January of 2011, on our first day at Temple University's
semester-abroad program in Tokyo. We'd come from different law schools
and different lives, hoping for a little adventure before graduating and
studying for the bar exam. We became friends over the course of the
semester, adventuring through international tax and contract drafting,
traveling to Bali, Indonesia, and other parts of Japan, eating strange
foods, seeing great sights, and making friends with miniature deer and
After the Great Tohoku Earthquake sent the majority of
our classmates home, we stayed in Japan through the end of the semester
and have been inseparable ever since. Together we've navigated five bar
exams, several moves, buying a little fixer-upper in Cambridge, and
adopting a dog, and we are excited to share the start of our next
adventure with our friends and family at Migis.
We thought the grown-up summer camp atmosphere at Migis
would be the perfect setting for guests to gather, relax, and celebrate.
The décor, activities, and food all incorporate nods to Japan, Ebony's
apple orchard upbringing, and Dave's family's summer traditions.
