The saying goes in Maine, if you don't like the weather wait five minutes. Well, for my portrait session with Cory and her family we wisely decided to wait a little bit longer for some torrential downpours to pass through. That two day wait was worth it and gave way to beautiful sun. We met early on Father's Day in hopes of avoiding a super crowded beach for some photos. I had a meeting in the afternoon and my own Father's Day plans, but the early start rewarded us with a nearly empty Ogunquit Beach!
Cory's family has been vacationing in Ogunquit for years. She has come every summer since she was a toddler, and her parents Judy and Arnie have been coming for 40 years, including the three years before they were married! Cory met her Aussie husband Michael while they both worked in NYC. Sparks flew and they moved to Australia seven years ago. Lucas, two years-old, and Aiden, four years-old, made the long trip back to Ogunquit with mom, but Michael unfortunately had to work. While we were thinking dearly of dad Michael back in Sydney, it was nice to be able to see Arnie celebrate Father's Day with his daughters, Cory and Jen, who flew in from Chicago. Arnie has been diagnosed with advanced stage cancer, but his positivity and the light shining from him is infectious. However, he did put his foot down and only don the lobster shirt for a few minutes :)
Cory, Judy, Arnie, Jen, Lucas, and Aiden - thank you all for allowing me to document your family portrait. I'm not certain I'll ever get it right - "pinkyponk"? (Aiden's word for the day) - but I certainly won't forget it! I wish you all the best and please say hello when you have Michael in tow on your next Ogunquit visit!
