Oquossoc, Maine wedding of Jessica and James

by

When I left my house near Portland to head to Jessica and James' nuptials in Western Maine, I had short sleeves on and felt comfortable, even though it was still raining a bit from the night before.  I got out of my car in Rangeley to shoot the breathtaking scenery at an overlook, and wished I had brought my fleece! The wind was whipping through the mountains, making it hard to even stand up straight as I shot.  I had some concerns that the reception on the lake might be challenging.

The weather was supposed to clear, but was still cloudy and chilly as their ceremony got underway at the most adorable log church I have ever seen.  Jessica and James, along with their guests, sang hymns and played music.  There was a very communal feeling in the air that I loved witnessing.

As we arrived at the Bald Mountain Camps Resort, the wind was still defying the forecast as whitecaps rolled along the lake.  The lodge was warm and cozy, and guests wandered in and out during a leisurely cocktail hour.  This was followed by a delicious dinner and some lovely toasts that elicited lots of laughs from the couple and their guests.

The highlight of the night was clearly the band, Réveillons!, from Quebec.  They led everyone in square and contradance style dancing and it was an absolute blast! It got everyone involved and kept them out of their seats as they do-si-do'd and promenaded around the dining room.  It was incredibly fun to photograph, but I was a little jealous as I saw the massive smiles and laughter spinning around me.

Western Maine is an awe inspiring place, and it was my absolute pleasure to be a part of such a unique wedding.
