Portland, Maine, Ocean Gateway wedding of Amanda and Mike

by

Amanda and Mike live in Chicago but chose to marry in Mike's home state of Maine. He has many close family members and friends in the area and a week of visiting and vacationing preceded their nuptials. The weather in June can be fairly unpredictable, but Amanda and Mike lucked out! Like the rest of the week, their wedding day was warm and sunny with a fresh breeze blowing off the ocean.

Amanda and Mike wedded in the small, historic Spurwink Church. Afterwards, they squeezed in a trip to the ocean for photos before heading to their oceanfront wedding venue in Portland. It was my first time photographing at the Ocean Gateway and I certainly hope it's not my last. Often one has to choose between a water venue and the convenience of the Old Port, but this venue boasts both. The space is large and open with windows overlooking the water. For guests seeking fresh ocean air, there is an adjoining deck that was heavily utilized throughout the reception.

Amanda and Mike are both incredibly nice and down-to-earth. I can tell by the close knit family and friends surrounding them how genuine and loyal they are, too. During the reception, Amanda's older sister, Christina, gave a very sweet toast. Their family moved often growing up but that were always able to adapt to their new home because they had each other- their best friends. I know that no matter where these two end up, they will always be at home.

Many thanks for inviting me to be a part of your big day, Amanda and Mike. Enjoy your time in Antigua!

How they met, in their own words:

Mike and Amanda are both actuaries who initially worked at competing consulting companies in Chicago. In January 2010, the companies decided to merge and competitors were forced to become colleagues. That transition wasn't very hard for Mike and Amanda though. They noticed each other at happy hours, frequently bantered about how their respective college basketball teams were superior, and it didn't take long before they became friends, and then dating friends, and then best friends.
