I loved these two the moment I met them at our engagement session last fall. As individuals Brittany and Kurt are incredible thoughtful, fun and genuinely awesome human beings so I guess it shouldn't surprise that they make a great couple, too!
Brittany and Kurt married at the Barn at Flanagan Farm. The set up at the barn is fabulously relaxing as you can do most of your decorating the day prior AND there are places for the wedding party to get ready on site. Brittany and her bridesmaids prepped in the farm house while the guys (who spent very little time actually getting ready) had access to a cute one-room grooms cottage, conveniently located next to a field for wiffle ball and a fire pit for grilling.
The ceremony took place in a grove surrounded by tall trees. Brittany chose bright colored dresses for her bridesmaids which popped perfectly against the green. (Her sister was in pink, the rest of the ladies wore poppy red, and Brittany's mother followed suit looking beautiful in a bright orange gown.) It was a heartfelt ceremony with guitar serenading and a couple of readings. Everyone had a hard time holding back tears (and laughter) when Brittany and Kurt read their vows custom to their almost 10 years together.
After the ceremony, guests wandered onto the lawn for cocktail hour- eating, drinking, mingling and writing well-wishes to the newlyweds. An impressive spread was catered The Frog and Turtle, a delicious Westbrook establishment where Brittany once worked. Cocktail hour, of course, led to more eating, drinking, dancing and general rivalry in the barn. There were many memorable things about this occasion, but I have to say that the toasts were top notch at this wedding. They were delivered by Brittany's sister (who also designed their awesome invitations!), Kurt's twin brother and Brittany's father. The speakers shared shared heartfelt sentiments followed by a lot of wit. The guests were left in stitches.
All in all, it couldn't have been a more perfect day or venue for Brittany and Kurt's closest friends and family to come together to show their love. Brittany and Kurt are one of those wonderful couples who have been together for years- you can't imagine them not together and you know they have many more years together to come. Congrats you two! Hopefully see you around the West End!
How they met, according to Brittany:
Kurt and I met working together at Portland Lobster Company in 2005. We
both worked in that ridiculously small kitchen together and loved every
minute of it. Kurt had the best smile. Kurt claims he loved that I
hung with the boys & had a strong sense of who I was. We started
initially as friends, but there was always something--others would
always ask. Kurt went on to work elsewhere, I went back to college. But
we regained contact when Kurt's older brother Ben held a Christmas
party and we both went.
