Cow Island wedding of Emily and Jon

Cow Island is host to just a handful of weddings a year, and the people who tend to choose it as a venue are always a little non-traditional, love the outdoors, and want a casual vibe to their wedding.  Emily and Jon were no different, but also put a lot of thought into keeping things sustainable to lessen their impact on the island and its inhabitants.  A family of nesting ospreys seemed to be presiding over the festivities throughout the day, although they let us know when we got a little too close by soaring above us and vocalizing their dismay.  We were sure to let them be, but I know Emily and Jon truly appreciated their watchful presence.

After a lovely ceremony under the oak trees, guests enjoyed drinks under the zipline (with its amazing view over Casco Bay) and then headed to the old battery fort for the reception.  Chasing Blue Band provided some rockin' bluegrass/americana music that had everyone up and dancing after (the always delicious) dinner.

I'm always a little jealous of the couple and their guests when I shoot here, because as I'm packing up to catch the boat home, I know they are dancing into the night and camping out on the island.  They get to wake up in this pristine place, close to Portland, but worlds away at the same time.  It's such a unique experience and was exactly the right fit for Emily and Jon.

I hope you all didn't keep the ospreys up too late ;)
