Emily and Patrick's Cape Cod wedding at the Wychmere Beach Club

by

I met Emily and Pat what seems like forever ago.  It always felt like we had been long-time friends.  Their Portland engagement session was one for the books - I had a blast, they were adorable, and the light was pure magic.  Needless to say, I was psyched for their wedding day.

These two had the same easy connection that I had seen months prior, something you find after being together as long as these two have, and more importantly, being the absolute right one for the other.  Emily was blissfully emotional, fessing up to me upon my arrival that she had been crying all day.  It made me smile to see framed photos from their engagement session around the house that Emily and girls were getting ready at.  Emily and Pat rented a beautiful compound of two houses, privately situated, on the same property in Brewster, MA on Cape Cod.  Heck, they could have had the wedding there and it would have been fabulous!  The property was for sale and we thought it would perfect for the group; we'd just have to pool a few dollars to swoop 'em up.

They chose to have their wedding at the Wychmere Beach Club in Harwich Port, MA.  This Longwood Events property underwent a gorgeous renovation since I had last shot there, so I was excited to see it (plus I had just been at Alden Castle for Laura and Esteban's wedding, which is another beautiful Longwood Events property in Brookline, MA).  A few clouds rolled in and out, but the sun shined bright, making for a sumptuous September day on the beach.  This only fueled Emily's bliss, for she has had an obsession with all things nautical (as her dad stated!) for a very long time.

All of Emily and Pat's waiting and planning paid off.  It was a wedding 10 years in the making, a long way back to their college days at University of Michigan where they met on that fateful first day of freshman orientation.  Their wedding was full of everything they wanted "happy tears, dancing, good food, and great company!"  I even got to see Arabic line dancing for the first time!  I am ecstatic for these two, and am so happy I could document this part of their lives as they embark on the next 10 years together that are bound to be filled with new excitement.  I hope I get to witness that, too.

Emily and Pat, thank you again.  Rachel and I had a blast documenting your wedding day!  I can't wait to hear about Fiji!!!

How they met, in their own words:

We met in college at the University of Michigan, actually the first day of orientation before school was even in session. We met while clearing trays in the dining hall, and were fast friends with the kind of stay-up-all-night-talking connection you only read about in Nicholas Sparks books. Emily had never met someone who knew quite so much about everything, and Pat had never met such a good listener.
We were inseparable throughout college – Pat walking Emily back to her dorm after class, and Emily taking a philosophy course just to impress Pat. We moved to Boston after undergrad where Pat went to law school and Emily sailed up and down the coast cooking aboard a schooner. Pat has stayed the most calming and steadily happy force in Emily’s frenetic world, and Emily has been planning Pat’s social calendar and generally organizing his world ever since.
