I have a problem of falling in love with my couples, I think. It's wonderful in that I'm able to truly dive in and commit to photograph a wedding as if my best friend is getting married and I want to be sure she has the best possible recollection of her day. But it also leaves me with a emptiness when it's all over! Such was the case with Caroline and Geof at their wedding at Shelburne Farms' Brick House in Vermont. After Caroline and Geof sped away in a convertible down the sparkler tree-lined driveway, Caroline's mom gave me a big hug and thanked me for not just taking pictures, but for helping them. "She knew, Caroline knew... No matter how many photographers we looked at, she knew it just had to be you."
You see, for as much preparing and planning from the remarkable team of coordinator Nancy Jeffries Dwyer, we weren't able to escape the rain that hovered over this historic mansion overlooking Lake Champlain. So instead of too much time allotted for formal photos before the ceremony on the lawn, we were ducking guests arriving and taking cover in the house. We were fetching umbrellas and brainstorming plans B and C for entrances and exits, portraits and moving parked cars for "the" shot. It was an intense day (I logged 15,000 steps on my new FitBit- a mild obsession and personal best. lol). But despite being waterlogged and looking like a drowned rat, it made it all the more sweet when the sun did emerge and offered the most spectacular sunset. Gasps were widespread from the reception tent as people abandoned their seats to capture the couple along the fence for a few last images during daylight before being treated to a lively celebration by The Pulse of Boston band.
Thank you so much for bringing to me to Vermont's majestic shores, Caroline and Geof. I look forward to a long relationship with you two, and cannot wait to see what the future has in store. Adore you! xo
How they met, in their own words:
Geof and Caroline met après ski in Stowe, Vermont over Valentine’s Day weekend 2010. Geof was in town for a weekend of skiing at Stowe with his buddies and Caroline was doing the same with her family. Their relationship started as a long distance one: Caroline was living in New York City and Geof was living in Boston. Caroline soon moved to Boston and the two got a chocolate lab named Trout which, as Geof’s dad said, was when Geof really sealed the deal. After a year spent out in northern California together while Caroline was getting her master’s degree, the two returned back to the Boston area, settling in Marblehead.
Geof proposed to Caroline with a beautiful family ring from his great, great grandmother on October 15, 2013 after taking Caroline on a long hike at the Lake Mansfield Trout Club, a fishing lodge up in Moscow, Vermont that Caroline’s family has been going to for generations.
