Rinna and Rob married on the water in Surry, Maine at a camp that his family has been going to since the '70s. They planned an intimate affair with beautiful wildflowers, a pig roast, candles and mason jars. After a sweet ceremony by the water officiated by Rob's sister, Deb, everyone enjoyed cocktail hour on the lawn. This was serenaded by the much adored Dave Mallett, who the couple was so thrilled to snag for their big day. You couldn't help but smile as Rinna danced barefoot in the grass in her tea length wedding dress and Rob sang along with band, as he surely knew every word to every song performed.
Clouds threatened all day. Luckily, it wasn't until Dave Mallet finished his set and the group headed in the tent for dinner that the rain came. When it did, it arrived in full force and was exciting to witness from the cover of the tent. There were sweet toasts, delicious food and more great music by the talented Wavelength (with salsa on the iPod between sets!). I was super impressed by this dancing crowd who never seemed to tire, only stopping to refuel with root beer floats and pie.
Congratulations Rob and Rinna! I'm so glad you get to stay and enjoy the area awhile longer!
Their story, in their own words:
Engagement: Rinna had no clue it was coming. They had always talked
about getting married and what their future would look like together but
never spoke about an actual engagement. Rinna had no idea Rob was
working on a big romantic plan and had already told her father that he
was going to pop the question. It was Rinna's 29 birthday and Rob
requested that as her gift they take a surprise trip. The night before
they left Rinna, her family and Paula ate at Marigold Kitchen while Rob
made her favorite dish. The next day Rob flew Rinna to Maine and
brought her to the Halpern's cabin that sits on Toddy Pond. In the
morning Rob told Rinna that her birthday gift was on the middle of the
pond on a small island called Twin Island. They had to take the canoe out
in the morning to go get it. Once they got to the island Rinna found
the ring box under a leaf. She picked it up and suggested opening it on a
rock that over looks over the entire pond. This particular rock is one
of their favorite spots to sit and play Mad Libs. It was a crisp
October morning on Toddy Pond the tree's leaves were so bright that it
looked like they were on fire, loons were singing in the distance and
they sat together nervously looking out. Rinna steadied her hand enough
to open the ring box. Rob simply looked in her eyes put his hand in
hers and said "Rinna, I love you. Will you marry me?" Stunned by
everything all she could do was kiss him, cry and eventually compose
herself enough to say yes.
How we met: Rob and Rinna met while dining with her
parents and dear family friend Paula at Rob's restaurant, Marigold
Kitchen. Rinna was eating what to this day is still her favorite dish,
mac and cheese. She loved it so much that when their server asked how
everything was she replied by saying "I will marry whoever made this
dish!" Paula encouraged Rinna to leave her number for Rob. After much
anticipation Rob finally called Rinna. It was an instant connection and
they've been together ever since!
