Meredith and Matt were married at the Sacred Heart Church in Portland. After reveling in two destination weddings in a row, on Mount Desert Island and Castine respectively, I was equally excited to be shooting my last marriage of the season right here in good old Portland.
On the corner of Sherman and Mellon, the grand Sacred Heart Church has been a longtime fixture in the community, and has been nominated to the National Registry of Historic Places. On this particularly gorgeous fall day, Sacred Heart held a traditional wedding service and mass. To the jubilation of friends and family, Meredith and Matt sealed the ceremony with a kiss, and practically floated down the aisle and out into the bright fall sunshine.
The portrait session to follow was lovely and unique as well. Lovely because Meredith and Matt were a pleasure to work with, and had great chemistry on camera, unique because our location was the Evergreen Cemetery, a personal connection with Meredith as her grandparents house was nearby. Not only did she grow up playing on the park-like grounds, but she learned to drive here as well.
By the time we hit the green lawns of the Portland Country Club, guests were anxious and excited to welcome bride and groom to the burgeoning reception party. Dinner, toasts, and dancing followed a golden cocktail hour, and the sun slipped below the horizon marking the first night Meredith and Matt would spend as a married couple.
Thank you Meredith and Matt! Best wishes and have a blast in Hawaii! Aloha...
How they met, according to Matt:
We met through the New York City Marathon in April of 2010. I was working for a PR agency that represented the race and Meredith was a participant. Our paths crossed when I had to call and inform her that she was one of the first 10 people selected in the race lottery. We attended Fordham University in the Bronx one year apart but did not know each other then.
