TEIA wedding of Vanessa and Jack on Peaks Island

I had been excited to photograph Vanessa and Jack since Skyping with them last year (with their adorable puppy).  The day proved to be a bit of a challenge weather-wise, as it was raining in the morning and continued to drizzle off and on throughout the day.  But these two were not discouraged and their guests stayed nice and dry, at the church and later at TEIA.

I got the feeling that Vanessa generally runs behind, so it seemed to be no surprise to her family and bridesmaids that she was rather late to the ceremony.  This bride is a professional actress, so Father Mike reminded her that Broadway shows start promptly at 8pm, which was met by hearty laughter from all their guests.

With a break between the ceremony and cocktail hour, we scooted to the back of the island for some portraits and Vanessa somehow managed to look glamorous, all the while dealing with a veil that was literally whipping back and forth from the wind.  Jack helped as much as he could to hold that thing down before we piled back into a vintage Chevy to another portrait spot.

Heather Cuzzi from Cairn Events was making the lovely finishing touches at TEIA as cocktail hour began and guests wandered from the tent, to the dining area, and along the porch.  I watched as Vanessa and Jack (Vanessa complete with a fun new updo) warmly greeted their guests with big smiles and hugs.

The reception officially began with a sweet first dance and some touching, and hilarious, toasts from family members.  Dandelion Catering served a beautiful, family-style meal which was followed by lively dancing as the drizzle fell outside, with everyone happily tucked in for a night of celebration.

How they met, according to Vanessa:

We met at a mutual friends' wedding on Cape Cod four years ago and had an immediate connection! We were both living in/near New York City and started dating shortly after. We now live in New Jersey and both absolutely love the East Coast. Jack's family has been spending summers on Peaks Island for over forty years, and was the destination for our first trip as a couple. My first trip up was during a very snowy January in 2011, and even then I could see the magic and the beauty of the island.
