Maine Center for Creativity press conference

by

Steve and I had the pleasure of photographing a press conference to formally announce the recipients of the Maine Center for Creativity's 2014 Maine Creative Industries Award on Monday.

Edison T. Liu, M.D., president and CEO of The Jackson Laboratory and Wendy Tardiff, executive director of The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing, who was representing Patrick Dempsey were joined by MCC's Executive Director Jean Maginnis to answer questions and speak to the importance of creativity and innovation in Maine.  Many area business people, artists, and community organizers were in attendance at the event held in the new pavilion of the Cumberland County Civic Center.

I'm always proud to live in Maine, but being surrounded by so many local people who are invested in supporting what we have to offer as creative professionals was an inspiring way to start the week.

[update: Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Dempsey family and all of those at the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing on the passing of Patrick's mother Amanda from cancer today].

one day old baby Hazel

by

I was weepy on the drive down, weepy walking into the hospital and weepy when I saw my dear friend cradling her daughter in her hospital room. What a journey it was, from the very first "OMG I think I'm pregnant!" text to the news that sweet Hazel arrived, I couldn't get to that hospital fast enough to wrap my arms around this little being that I already love so much.

It's crazy, this having kids club. Our lives, bodies, emotions, perceptions- everything changes. I feel like my life didn't really begin until I became a mom, and I marvel when other people have the opportunity to learn just what on earth I actually mean when I say that. Whitney and AK were made to be parents and are totally on board with this sentiment now.

Meet sweet Hazel. The world is a better place now that she's safely here. Enormously proud of mama and papa (huggy) bear. I can't wait to watch this little lady grow up. xoxo

March Greendrinks at Cumberland County Civic Center

by

Down in Massachusetts they have Cape Cod Community College (CCCC).  Here in Portland we have Cumberland County Civic Center (CCCC), freshly remodeled and playing host to the March 2014 GreenDrinks festivities.  The usual throngs of supporters gathered and lines formed in the airy new lobby and event space, enjoying wide views through a bank of floor to ceiling windows.  The evening benefited the outstanding Hurricane Island Outward Bound School.  Here is a bit about the Outward Bound mission:

Outward Bound is a non-profit educational organization and expedition school that serves people of all ages and backgrounds through active learning expeditions that inspire character development, self-discovery and service both in and out of the classroom.

A great cause by any gauge, and they brought along the best props the Maine Snapshot Studio has seen in a while.  Feel free to verify, proof in photos below...

BESWOON recap

by

We had the pleasure of collaborating with a team of local talent in the rustic room at the first BESWOON curated bridal showcase at the Westin Portland Harborview Hotel. Armed with the task of transforming a dull, windowless conference room into an inspirational rustic wedding space was a huge undertaking. Planner Megan Lord of Pencil Events crafted a plan, and everyone pitched in to help bring her vision to life over the course of several months.

The day of the event, the room was abuzz with oohing brides-to-be as they spotted curious decor elements, the elaborate dessert display and the enchanting farm tablescape, all while being treated to melodic tunes, food, drink, swag and the photo booth.

Thanks for the pics, Whit, Denise and Steve!
