French's Point is probably the most elegant and grand venue in Maine, so it was a fitting setting for the formal wedding of Jessica and Peter. These two met while attending Colby but live in Seattle, so enlisted the wedding planning assistance of Cairn Events to connect the dots locally for wedding weekend.
The day started leisurely with Jessica readying in the bridal suite at the retreat and Peter next door at Beach Rose Farm with his guys and family. With ample time to spare before the ceremony, Jessica, her maids and her family gathered for portraits in bright sunshine as the finishing touches for the reception were being completed in the nearby tent. The band (all the way from NYC) rehearsed a few specific songs the couple had requested they play, a fantastic soundtrack. Their waterfront ceremony featured beautiful poetry and stories by friends, family members and Jessica's hometown minister. A storm was closing in just as they finished their vows. As they made it official with a kiss, raindrops began to fall. Everyone hustled inside for cocktail hour and, during a break in the weather, we hurried outside for a few family photos which were cut short because everyone's hair was literally standing on end from an approaching lightning storm. Yikes! Soon the sun was back out, and later, a beautiful rainbow enchanted guests during dinner. The dance party was a lively one, which then turned into a late-night party back inside the retreat after we had left.
Wishing you so much love and happiness, Jessica and Peter. Rachel and I had a wonderful day with you and your families! xo
How they met, according to Jessica:
We both attended Colby College and met during our COOT (Colby Outdoor Orientation Trip) while waiting for the bus back to campus. We were friends (for a short time) first, and quickly began dating during our first semester of college in 2003. We've been together ever since. From the time I (Jessica) was small, my family traveled up the coast of Maine each summer to a magical family spot in New Brunswick, Canada (where we will continue the celebration with close friends directly following the wedding). Each summer, I unwittingly drove through the town of Thomaston, Maine where Peter grew up. Needless to say, Maine holds a very special place in our hearts. Each summer we return to Maine to visit Peter's family, the wonderful Colby Art Museum, and Jessica's family's vacation spot off the coast of Campobello Island. A couple of summers ago, we visited Belfast for the first time. We fell in love with the town including memorable spots like Chase's Daily and Marshall Wharf. When we heard about a wedding venue just a few miles north in Stockton Springs, we knew it was where we wanted to tie the knot.
