Bar Harbor Club wedding of Stephanie and Sam

"We're going to be crazy," Stephanie warned when describing how she envisioned her wedding last year over the phone. Crazy FUN!

After covering their rehearsal dinner the night before, we knew we were in for a treat. Hugs all around to start, inappropriate conversation with the legendary Joanne of Joya Beauty as the girls readied and Father of the Bride played in the background, WedBoston to the rescue to sew all of the groomsmen's suspenders to their pants (whoops, no button holes!) and gasps as one by one everyone ditched sweatpants for formal wear (Stephanie's mom's, a custom hot pink number was a season favorite, I think). I believe the only thing that didn't go according to plan was when a blank card was mistakenly delivered to Stephanie with her gift from Sam, hilarious comic relief during an otherwise emotional moment.

We strolled up the street to the Bar Harbor Club at the Harborside Hotel for a picture-perfect September ceremony with peeks of the ocean and billowing white hydrangeas at every turn. After breezing through formal photos ("we only want one family portrait and one bridal party portrait!" Done!), the newlyweds joined their guests for cocktails on the terrace. As night fell, Stephanie let her hair down and this pair wow'ed with a first dance inside that even included a lift (a trademark move for them, I'd later learn). The dance party was ON from the start, with guests taking breaks to hydrate or listen to a few toasts as the dinner's courses were presented.

A confetti finish wrapped the reception in the ballroom as a trio of banjo and guitarists lured guests outside to lead them to an after-party in the pool house. I said good-night as gourmet pizza and nachos were being served and the drinks continued to flow. Even tho they weren't supposed to, I have to imagine folks were in that pool before long. Just a hunch.

How they met:

We met while working at AIG in back to back cubicles. We joke that our real song is probably Rihanna "Fell in Love in a Hopeless Place". We were friends for about 2 years before we started dating. More than anything we are truly best friends. With the bride as an event planner in New York, Sam has been left out of a lot of the details. He loves to refer to this wedding weekend as a big surprise party. Sam's last name is Muhs pronounced "Moose" so we had a great time incorporating moose details in everything from the Save the Date to the welcome bags. Even the aisle runner has gold moose tracks hand painted on the side by the mother of the bride herself! Maine is such a special place to both of use more than anything we are so thrilled to have all of our friends and family here to show off the natural beauty of this place! Not much decor needed for this place!

island wedding of Pauline and Jody in Boothbay Harbor

Squirrel Island is my new favorite place.  I just adore how you can be from Maine, like myself, and have no idea these beautiful spots exist just a ferry ride away...waiting to be discovered.  Pauline's mother and aunt both have places on the island so she's been coming here for years.  After meeting Jody, he started coming along for visits as well and they knew it was the perfect place to get married.

As you come off the dock, the newly renovated town hall is up on a small hill overlooking the bay.  It may be a municipal building, but it almost seems like it was put there as a wedding venue.  It has a huge, sun-filled, indoor space for a reception and an expansive deck that is the perfect place for cocktails with a breeze coming off the water.

No vehicles are allowed here, so only a few Gators and golf carts slowly drive about the pathways. There are tennis courts, a community garden, a beautiful beach, and an adorable library complete with a squirrel weather vane atop it. The ceremony was held on the lawn just behind the chapel, with Pauline's brother officiating. After their I Do's, we wandered about the island for some photos with Jody (a speed demon in everyday life) carefully negotiating getting around in a golf cart while Pauline and I talked about our love for animals.  They have a kitty cat now (who was an integral part of their engagement, think ring on the collar) who naturally needs some friends.

As the sun set over the island, guests were treated to a lobster dinner inside the town hall, hilarious toasts, and music for some dancing.  As I boarded the ferry back to Boothbay, I had a big smile on my face.  I was so happy to discover such a special spot on the Maine coast with such a lovely couple.  Thank you so much, Pauline and Jody, for having me! Let me know when you get that new dog!

Their story:

In May of 2009, Pauline and Jody met through mutual friends while dining in a group, at -- as they like to call it -- a "mediocre Mexican restaurant" in Boston's Faneuil Hall Marketplace. They've been snowboarding, traveling, and enjoying strange ethnic foods together ever since.

Jody proposed to Pauline in Boston on 7/11/2014 amidst a room full of photographs of their life together. In addition to the marriage proposal, Jody promised Pauline that they'd adopt a kitten (Pauline's favorite animal).

Their continued adventures took them both from Boston, MA to a new residence in Denver, CO in September of 2014. Shortly after settling in, they adopted their feline companion, Kasza, who came from a local animal shelter.
