It's hard not to think of this pair and their families without smiling. For more than a year we have swapped texts and emails, sat down for coffee numerous times and zipped around their beloved Squirrel Island on foot and by boat for their engagement session last fall. FINALLY, their wedding weekend arrived and I was thrilled to kick it off capturing their rehearsal dinner at the stunning Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.
Have you been to the gardens before? I am the daughter of a brilliant gardener and it takes a lot to impress me. Consider me impressed. Every inch is thoughtfully manicured with incredible color and texture. Creative nooks, themed spaces and art installations abound in this 270 acre wonderland. Be sure to make plans to visit asap!
Ruth and Dana's guests joined them in the gardens for a cocktail hour before retreating inside for their formal dinner. Calling over hedges and hiding behind trees, greetings continued with hearty hugs or handshakes marveling over the scenery and beautiful glow of the sun. As it dipped behind the trees, the group moved to the Borsarge Family Education Center for a yummy meal (I can vouch for that!) and tearful toasts (still getting emotional after 12 years of covering weddings!).
That night I stayed at the Topside Inn in Boothbay Harbor for the weekend (in room 21, just renovated and modern!), a perfect place to recharge my batteries and catch the sunrise for the wedding day ahead! I also indulged on homemade lobster gnocchi with locally foraged mushrooms, which should tip anyone over the edge if you're considering staying there! Delish!
Next up, the wedding day blog post!
