Emily and Robert threw a formal affair for their wedding and added sweet personal touches throughout their celebration. The family-focused weekend kicked off with the rehearsal dinner at the Saltwater Grille in South Portland, which I was informed was a lovely time. Emily, a Maine-native, said she had to give the folks from “away” some of that coastal Maine fix! Conversely, the following day the wedding ceremony and reception boasted a classic, timeless feel with the historic Portland Club playing host; a fitting venue given that Robert is obtaining his PhD in American History and teaches at UNC.
I had a busy day shuffling between some locales pre-ceremony, but fortunately Emily and Robert arranged to have a car pick me up for a couple of the stops. Even with close-by spots, sometimes a ride is just that much easier. I made stops at the Portland Club for some initial details, O2 Salon to catch some of Emily’s prep, back to the Portland Club for Robert’s prep, a quick hang at LFK with Robert and some guests who were grabbing drinks, then back to the Portland Club for the remainder of the girls’ prep — it was really fun to document Emily and Robert in all those local places!
Emily and Robert were extremely thoughtful about others on their own wedding day. Robert gifted pocket watches to his groomsmen and picked out the purple polka dot socks they donned. Emily gave her bridesmaids necklaces and charm bracelets to Robert’s nieces. Emily tied some family necklaces to her bouquet to carry with her as she walked down the aisle. Robert’s wedding band is his father’s; he passed away about a decade ago, but was proudly acknowledged in his brother Kurt’s toast, and I have no doubt his presence was felt. Robert’s sister Ashley successfully officiated the ceremony — her first! — and was the person who set them up five years ago! Robert was handsome in his custom suit. Emily was stunning in her wedding dress and later, when the tulle train got too hot, surprised everyone (me included!) when she changed into a fun bright red dress (with pockets!). Their cat Mott couldn’t attend the wedding, but Ashley acknowledged him in the ceremony and he was featured on the cake topper! Maddy from Black Tie Catering was fabulous to work with again. DJ Greg was mixing some unpredictable beats together — it was eclectic and awesome and kept the dance floor lively!
Congrats to Emily and Robert!! Thanks for letting me document your wedding day. Hope you enjoyed your French Riviera honeymoon! Félicitations mariés!
