Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth is a favorite venue – so close to Portland yet all-inclusive so why would you ever want to leave? Views, food, and pampering aplenty await. And it's dog-friendly, which is what attracted our New York couple Nicole (Nikki) and Jonathan (Jono) to check it out a few years back with their beloved pup Hanley. To boot, Jono popped the question on neighboring Crescent Beach last year, so it seemed the perfect fit for their wedding location (albeit not the most convenient for all of their traveling guests).
The guys and girls readied in separate suites overlooking the reception tent, watching the decor come to life as suits were ironed, lips glossed and buttons threaded (oh, those buttons!). Dodging each other en route to the main inn for the ceremony to start on the lawn, nervous chatter was appreciating the beautiful day and stunning views of the Atlantic.
The ceremony was officiated by a friend (she rapped it during prep- hilarious) who mentioned their long courtship (they met as college freshmen!) and beloved pup before vows were exchanged and the happy couple was up the aisle to celebrate and kick around some sand for formal photos on the beach.
After a lingering cocktail hour, we all retreated under the sailcloth tent (a photographer's dream!) for fun, insightful toasts and special dances as the sun inched its way lower in the sky. The band had everyone on the floor for a spirited horah, some classic and current tunes, and playful back and forth with guests. In a corner of the tent, our digital photo booth saw some silly expressions with the couples' custom logo as a takeaway for party goers.
The inn's outdoor events have to wrap by 8p (neighborhood noise ordinance), so we moved inside the inn for an after-party, stopping for some late night eats from a food truck parked in the driveway – a fun trend and huge hit.
Nikki and Jono, it was a WONderful day! Katie and I loved the chance to capture all the joy and wish you endless happiness. Perhaps an annual photo session on the beach is in order? xoxo
