Grace Restaurant wedding of Erin and Ryan in Portland

Many of our couples don't live in Maine, but come here to get married because they spent summers here or enjoy the picturesque coastline or quaintness of our small towns.  Erin and Ryan chose to live right here in Portland and get married here too!

Erin got ready at the Press Hotel (formerly the home of the Portland Press Herald) with her ladies, with its typewriters on the wall and letter-adorned carpets.  Her hair and makeup were finished, so she was curled up on the bed most of the time laughing and chatting, offering suggestions on jewelry and making sure the playlist was on point.  Every so often I'd catch a nervous check of her phone as the ceremony time crept closer.  Finally, Erin got into her (gorgeous) dress and we all headed downstairs and made the quick walk over to Grace Restaurant.

Guests were seated on the bottom level and Ryan waited for Erin to appear at the end of the aisle with her dad.  A huge smiled crossed his face when she arrived and they had a lovely ceremony, complete with a few tears and a couple of laughs (how does a veil fall out inside with no wind??).

We had fun with some photos over at City Hall, complete with Congress St. characters passing by, and came back to Grace for the reception.  Guests were enjoying beautiful cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the main level and the balcony with the beautiful stained glass windows as a backdrop.

The festivities kicked off with their first dance and some toasts and were followed by dinner.  Not long after, Erin danced with her father and was surprised by her sister joining the band to sing for them.  Such a sweet moment!

The party really started at this point and my goodness, could this crowd celebrate! They held nothing back and danced like maniacs all...night...long!  I saw Ryan lifted up by his groomsmen and other friends more than once, that's for sure!

Erin and Ryan, thank you so much for having Whitney and I!  We love Portland too!

Cow Island wedding of Sarah and Peter in Casco Bay

There is just no place like Cow Island.  I think it's the most unique wedding venue I have shot at to date, and it was the perfect fit for Sarah and Peter.  Some of the proceeds from each wedding go to Rippleffect,a non-profit youth and community development organization that offers outdoor adventure programming.  This added element was a definite factor in this couple choosing to get married here, and it's refreshing to see people focus on giving back when it's so easy to get lost in a wedding being "their" day.

The energy was so warm and joyful from the moment I arrived, so I knew this day was just going to be lovely.  Sarah, her mom, Anne, and her bridesmaids and I were treated to a private charter to the island on Sarah's family's boat, which is docked in Falmouth.  What a fun way to start the festivities!

Once we arrived, I scooted back and forth between Sarah and Peter getting ready, both in yurts, on different parts of the island.  Sarah's mom and ladies took time to toast her individually and there were certainly some tears shed, which was so sweet to see.  Anne remarked that every mom hopes her daughter can surround herself with friends as caring and supportive as Sarah has found, and this new mom got a little teary too!

Guests began arriving on the ferries, remarking on what a special spot they had come to and how they'd never been to a wedding quite like this one.  Sarah and Peter had a beautiful ceremony by the water, covered by a canopy of trees and with the sounds of birds chirping and ocean breezes.

Cocktail hour is always a treat here, because the zipline is open for anyone that wants to try! Participants fly right over the guests as they sip and snack and the view from the launch point is also to die for, looking out over Casco Bay.  Peter did not miss his chance to take part!

Everyone moseyed down to the reception area and settled in for dinner and toasts, one by Sarah's step-father, her brother, and Peter's sister.  They were some of the funniest and most touching I think I've ever witnessed! They all just really took advantage of the moment to celebrate Sarah and Peter in a truly authentic way, while still including some laughs.

DJ Jodi kicked things off when it was time to dance and rocked it all...night...long!  I witnessed some seriously dedicated dancing. I had a feeling this crew was going to rip it up, and they did not disappoint!

The call for the ferry came all too early, but this day was one for the books.  It was an enchanting day from beginning to end and the love between Sarah and Peter, and the love they share with their family and friends, was palpable.

Sarah and Peter, thank you so very much for including me on your big day! And say hi to the other Portland (yay SE!) for me!
