The ladies got ready at the Granite Ridge Estate, with the aforementioned views on display while they primped and prepped. The lovely Joanne from Joya Beauty was on hand with makeup and Jenn Macek Conway provided the beautiful hair styling. Several of Lindsay's bridesmaids were pregnant or had recently had babies, so I felt right at home as they rubbed their bellies or cuddled their new ones (we had a daughter, Josie, in April)!
Everyone boarded a stretch limo for the hour long trip to the church in Rumford. Another great thing about western Maine, no real need to worry about traffic! Lindsay and Austin do not take themselves seriously at all, so it was fun to watch them sneak a few laughs during their Catholic ceremony. They recessed out the front doors with guests throwing rose petals from every direction, perhaps my favorite moment of the day. Lindsay had told me earlier that Austin was very excited about this exit and made sure the petals were ordered and where they needed to be. Might not have guessed that from a guy from Machias!
We stopped for some photos along the way and then arrived back at Granite Ridge for cocktail hour, with guests sipping on beverages and snacking on treats from Fire and Company. Drinks are served out of a red, 1947 Dodge truck and the food is prepared over a wood fire built into another antique truck. So cool!
Guests slowly gathered inside for the reception and watched as Lindsay and Austin had their first dance (more laughs between these two) and listened to some funny, and tear jerking, toasts from family members. The barn looked amaaaaaazing and was designed by the oh-so-talented Lani Toscano and Judy Bourgeois at Flora Fauna.
I knew this crowd was going to be fun and they did not disappoint! The dancing kicked off after dinner and did not stop. Lindsay and Austin were right there in the thick of it, with big smiles on their faces. What a day!
Lindsay and Austin, thank you so much for including Katie Baker and I on your big day!!
How they met:
Austin and I met in June 2006 (ten years ago) at the Whale's Tale on Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. Austin was going to be a junior at the University of New Hampshire, and I was entering my senior year at Syracuse University. We both were hired as waitstaff for a summer job during college. We dated for the summer, and parted ways until June 2008. Two years later, he spent his summer in Naples, Maine, where my family has a camp on Long Lake in Naples. We started spending time together again, and the rest is history. We moved to Boston, Massachusetts in January 2009, where we currently reside. We chose to have our wedding in Maine, as Austin's hometown is Machias, Maine, and I grew up spending my summers with my parents on Long Lake. We fell in love with Granite Ridge Estate & Barn as a venue, and wanted a meeting point between both of our families (I am originally from Dover, New Hampshire, where my parents live.) We wanted a wedding in the woods/mountains of Maine, that would be romantic and elegant, but true to ourselves individually and as a couple.
